ACE-AFSCME LOCAL 2250 A POWERFUL VOICE FOR WORKERS WHO SERVE PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

With almost 6,000 members in 9 chapters throughout Prince George’s County, the American Classified Employees-American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 2250 (ACE-AFSCME Local 2250) is a powerful voice for the hard-working men and women who serve Prince George’s County school children, community and those in early childhood education programs, children with special needs and those who take advantage of our before and after school programs and other community services.

ACE-AFSCME Local 2250 works every day to secure a better way of life for our active members and retirees, and we work for a more secure and confident future for those who dedicate their lives to Prince George’s children and most vulnerable citizens.

The idea to organize the classified employees in Prince George’s County was conceived in 1967 by three maintenance workers. Helped by the Prince George’s County Educator’s Association, they formed the School Maintenance Association and negotiated their first contract gaining a 7% pay increase and leave policy. In 1968, 500 classified employees met and formed the American Classified Employees Association. The Board of Education recognized them. Less than one year later, the five hundred members had grown to over two thousand members.

On June 9, 1971, ACE Board of Directors voted to affiliate with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), becoming ACE-AFSCME Local 2250, to gain assistance, resources, and political experience from a national union yet maintain autonomy. Now for over 48 years, ACE-AFSCME Local 2250 has advocated and won many workplace improvements.
