Arbitration

Andrew M. Strongin, Arbitrator, said that the Board of Education’s “use of substitute and temporary employees effectively subverts the Agreement, in effect, the Board has circumvented the requirements of the Agreement by intentionally creating a second class of employees who, for all practical purposes, perform bargaining unit work without the benefit of any of the negotiated contractual provisions.” PDF file more...

Mission

Our mission is to provide you with the most up–to–date and timely information so that you will find it easier to stay informed and empowered.

Letter from the President

January 29, 2009

Local 2250 Members,

On Monday and Tuesday of this past week, we celebrated two very important days in the history of our country, Martin Luther King’s Birthday and the inauguration of our 44th president, Barack Obama.

While these days were exciting and, I believe, signify a change for the better for our country, state and, yes, Prince George’s County, I also believe there are difficult times ahead in the immediate future for us as public employees. I want to assure all Local 2250 members that our union will work diligently to preserve our jobs, wages and benefits but it is not going to be easy.

The Federal, State and local budgets have huge deficits which must be dealt with. These deficits did not occur overnight and will not be corrected overnight. I want to urge you to keep us posted as you will surely hear rumors regarding cutbacks, layoffs, etc.

Call the Union Office at 301-809-0472 if you hear any rumors regarding your position or classification and we will attempt to answer these issues as accurately and promptly as we can.

In conclusion, I am confident that things will improve but, in the meantime, come to work, do your job and keep us informed if you have any concerns or questions.

Faith Jones, President
