BUS DRIVERS DEMONSTRATED
FOR SAFETY AT THE BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
On Thursday, February 16, 2006, 300 Transportation
Department drivers and attendants made their voice heard over the school
system’s failure to enforce the Student Code of Conduct. Drivers and attendants conducted themselves
as professionals, and made the point that their number one priority is safety
on the buses for children and the drivers.
Local 2250’s President, Faith Jones, requested that “the
school board meet with the union’s steward council, union leadership,
Transportation Department, school board representatives, and the Acting CEO,
Howard Burnett. This meeting must be
held in order to defuse a volatile situation.”
Faith Jones went on to say that all employees of the Board
appreciate the drivers and attendants effort to bring order and justice to a
critical part of every student’s day.
Thank you for a job well done. If
our meeting with management is unsuccessful, all of us will be back in even
larger numbers to demand action on the Student Code of Conduct and safety for
all.
IN UNITY, THERE IS
STRENGTH!
